Why Worry?

Hello dear ladies! It's Sara!

I am so excited to introduce you to my friend, Hannah! Hannah Frey was raised in a preacher's home in MI. While she went to college in Indiana, taught 1st and 2nd grade for 3 years in West Virginia, and has traveled to many different countries, she calls Berne, IN home. Hannah has been the church secretary at Faith Baptist Church for almost 3 years. When I met Hannah, our hearts were just immediately knit! We talked for three-plus hours about the Lord, different ministries, teaching, bible college, relationships, and our families. It was a time of sweet, godly fellowship that I will never forget. After I approached Hannah about writing a post for Continue, she sent me the article below.

Read on to be convicted, challenged, and greatly encouraged!

“Will I have enough to money pay the bills?”

“What if can’t pass this test?”

“What if I’m not married by 30?”

“Am I supposed to go to college-if so, which one?”

These are just a few questions so many of us have probably asked ourselves at one time or another – I know I have.

I read this quote recently,

“Worry implies that we do not quite trust that God is big enough, powerful enough, or loving enough to take care of what is happening in our lives.”

I feel that so often we allow doubts to come upon ourselves when we choose to worry, rather than rely on the One Who created us. He has the answer to each question, the choice to trust is ours. This song says it best:

Why worry when you can pray?

Trust Jesus, He’ll be your stay.

Don’t be a doubting Thomas,

Rest solely on His promise.

Why worry, worry, worry, worry,

When you can pray?

Just remember that we cannot worry and pray at the same time, nor can we worry and trust at the same time. When we choose to trust God, His peace will come.

Worry means: a state of anxiety and uncertainty over actual or potential problems

How many times have we “borrowed” trouble? My hand is raised!!!

While there are many things we can do when worry enters, here are just three reminders for when we start to worry:

1. Trust God

- Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord…lean not…acknowledge him…he shall direct thy paths.”

- The moment we “lean”, we are not fully trusting!

- When we fully trust God, it means that we have completely chosen to hand the worries and problems over to Him. If we trust, God will lead.

2. Cling to God’s promises

- Search the Scripture for verses that pertain to your worries.

- Memorize or at least read those promises over and over that God has for you in His Word.

3. Pray

- David said in Psalm 5:2, “Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.”

- We know Who to turn to, but how often do we let prayer be the last resort when we start to worry – let Christ be the One we run to first!!!

Amen and amen! Thank you for hitting the nail on the head, Hannah. I like how you said that it is impossible to worry and trust or worry and pray at the same time. "When we fully trust God, it means that we have completely chosen to hand the worries and problems over to Him. If we trust, God will lead." LOVE this!

Thank you for sharing this post. Keep using your gifts for His glory!

Love in Christ,

Claudine

Wonderful thoughts and much needed in today's worry laden world of self-proclaimed believers in the Almighty, all wise, all loving God! HE is so much more worthy of our trust than we give Him!
